Grand Slam

It is the granddaddy of them all — the Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep®: the original everyone knows and has dreamed of since way back when. I was riveted by Jack O’Connor’s tales of adventure from the wilds of Alaska and the vast remoteness of the Yukon and British Columbia to the sun-baked and cactus-studded cliffs of Mexico and heights of the Rocky Mountains, where North America wild sheep live. When you hear that someone got their “Slam,” or that they are a “Slammer,” almost everyone knows what it is. Sure, there are other cherished hard-won awards commemorating other hunting achievements, but your Grand Slam is like your first love: you will always remember how it felt ... it is the one you will never forget. While considering the composition of the sculpture, I wanted it to represent a pinnacle moment in a hunter’s life. I chose this dramatic crash to symbolize that moment of achievement ... the moment you got your Grand Slam. But as an added incentive, this sculpture can be a reminder of something you are still striving toward. The four skulls, one of each species, can be added as the rams are taken. Those open spots are beckoning to the hunter to get back on their quest. Once the Grand Slam is complete, I can send your official Grand Slam documentation number plate to be added to complete the process.
The large bronze is 36 inches long and 17 inches high and weighs about 45 pounds.  On the front are custom made brass plates indicating your official Grand Slam documentation number and any other inscription or dedication you would like. All this is very personal, and making something unique and personalized for a client is one of my favorite aspects of my art. Each ram species of the journey is showcased as a bronze skull that sits on its own pedestal. The skulls are removable for close-up interaction.
Additionally, a smaller version of the same bronze that measures 18 x 8 inches.   It is the same design (minus the skulls) as the larger piece. That piece has a lower price point, might be more affordable as a gift, or its size might lend itself to an office space of smaller area.
